When Custom Meets AI

Imagine it is your birthday and you received lots of presents and all well thought out and keeping you in mind and your likes and taste and your hobbies.

Now imagine receiving just one present that has been handmade exclusively for you. There is no second recipient in the world for whom that gift would make quite the same sense. It belongs to you, and only you.

That is the true meaning of customization.

And naturally, it is the gift you are most likely to remember.

In a world overflowing with marketing messages, promotional merchandise and an endless race for consumer attention, the real challenge is no longer simply being seen. It is being remembered.

For years, customization in marketing has meant putting a name or logo on pens, diaries, calendars, water bottles, backpacks and T-shirts. While these products introduced a degree of personalization, years of repetition have made the approach increasingly predictable.

The real opportunity lies beyond putting a name on something.

It lies in making something meaningful.

Beyond Customization: Making It Personal

Meaningful customization takes effort.

It requires thought, research and, most importantly, a genuine understanding of the person or business you are creating for.

You need to know their story. Their history. Their interests. Their geography. Their people. Their legacy.

And this can happen only when the relationship between a supplier and a buyer goes beyond transactions.

When your customer's growth is connected to your own, the relationship naturally becomes a partnership.

At Roger La Viale, we have always believed that anything we create or share should have a purpose. It should add value, create meaning and, wherever possible, feel genuinely personal.

That belief led us to an unusual idea.

Thousands of Businesses. Thousands of Stories.

Across Asia, thousands of retailers and tailors are family-owned businesses. Many have been built over generations, with stories that stretch back to fathers, grandfathers. These businesses know their customers intimately. They understand their craft. They have built their reputation through relationships.

But when it comes to marketing, the landscape is very different.

Not every business has the resources to work with a marketing agency. Social media can feel intimidating and overwhelming. Some businesses follow what everyone else is doing, while others simply choose not to participate.

We wanted to do something different.

Something that would not just be another marketing communication from a supplier, but something that each retailer or tailor could own, enjoy and proudly share.

And so, an idea was born.

A Jingle Made Just for You

What if every tailor and retailer could have their own personalized jingle?

Not a generic song with a name inserted into it.

A jingle built around their business, their story and their identity.

And not just one version, but jingles created in two languages making each one more relevant to the individual business and its audience.

The idea was exciting. The scale of execution was anything but simple. This is where AI entered the picture.

When AI Meets the Human Touch

AI dramatically accelerated the creative process. It helped transform the information we collected into personalized musical content at a scale that would have been extremely difficult to achieve through traditional methods.

But AI was not the hardest part. Understanding the customer was.

Before a jingle could be created, our team had to uncover the details that would make each one meaningful.

We researched business histories, family legacies, locations, and other small details that could help tell the story of each retailer or tailor.

Then came another enormous task: quality control.

Thousands of jingles had to be listened to, reviewed and checked. Names had to be pronounced correctly. Pronunciation had to be accurate. Corrections had to be identified and addressed.

The technology may have accelerated creation, but the human effort behind the personalization was substantial.

And that taught us something important.

AI can create at scale. But meaningful personalization still begins with understanding people.

The Reaction Made It Worthwhile

After hundreds of hours of work, the most rewarding part was not seeing the jingles completed, It was seeing the reactions of the people receiving them.

There was a surprise. There was laughter. And, most importantly, there was recognition.

Business owners were hearing melodies that spoke about their companies, their journeys and, in some cases, businesses started by their fathers and grandfathers.

Something that began as a marketing idea had become something much more personal.

It had become a celebration of their identity.

What We Learned

The entire exercise has been a lesson in humility for us at Roger. These deep connections that we are privileged to experience and enjoy with the world's best tailor-artists has ended up teaching us how much more there is to know and how much more there is to do to celebrate this world of customization that involves fitting 2 shoulders that are both different and that is just for 1 person.

And when technology meets that level of genuine understanding, customization becomes more than personalization.

It becomes something people remember.
